CCTV systems in Hazardous Environment Zone 1 may require wireless transmission due to specific needs.
These wireless transmission devices replace twisted pair cables, the medium used for video and communications transmission in networked explosion-proof CCTV systems . It should be noted that all wireless transmission devices (such as access points, bridges or antennas) must be ATEX or IECEx certified. Alternatively they must have an explosion-proof enclosure or be installed in an explosion-proof cabinet.
-
Wi-Fi (Standard 802.11 Protocol)
Typical Indoor Range
Approximately 30-50 meters (100-165 feet) due to walls and obstructions.
Outdoor Line-of-Sight Transmission
Can reach up to 300 meters (1,000 feet) or more, depending on equipment and environmental conditions.
-
Point-to-Point Wireless Bridges
Typical Range
Specialized point-to-point wireless bridges can achieve ranges of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) or more, especially when using single-mode fiber connections for data backhaul.
High-Frequency Solutions
Some advanced systems can reach distances of up to 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) with appropriate equipment and line of sight.
-
Licensed Microwave or RF Links
Typical Range
These systems can cover distances from 1 kilometer up to 10-20 kilometers (6.2 miles) or more, depending on the equipment and frequency band.
Line-of-Sight Requirement
These systems generally require a clear line of sight between the transmitter and receiver to avoid signal degradation.
